Indonesia
Introduction
The Republic of Indonesia is located in Southeast Asia and Oceania. The region is covered with approximately 17,000 islands. As a result, it is the largest island country in the world. Interestingly, the total land coverage is the 14th largest with approximately 1.9 million square kilometers. However, due to its gigantic population, it is still a very densely populated republic.
Economy
The GDP of $3.338 trillion makes Indonesia the third largest economy in the East Asia and Pacific region of the world, right after China and Japan. Interestingly, it is almost 8% of the entire East Asian GDP. As a result of a large population, such a large GDP (that would give the nation 3rd place in Europe as well) translates into one of the lowest GDPs per capita in the region if we take into account countries that are of average size or larger. It is approximately $12,300. For comparison, the average GDP per capita in this location is $18,450, 35% larger than in the case of Indonesia.
Population
According to data from 2019, the Republic of Indonesia was inhabited by approximately 270 million people, which is the fourth most populous country in the world. Even if we take into account their large size, their density is also quite impressive with 141 Indonesians per square kilometer.
