Introduction

The Islamic Republic of Iran is a large country located in Western Asia. Due to its gigantic land coverage and a great population, it is considered to be one of the most important nations in the region. The capital and at the same time the largest city of Iran is Tehran. Interestingly, the nation is home to a large number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Economy

Iran is considered to be one of the economic powers in the region with the GDP value of around $1.073 trillion. However, an important thing to note is that in the last 10 years their GDP value dropped by 25% (from $1.344). Still, in the Middle East and North Africa, they are the third largest economic power (behind Saudi Arabia and Egypt).

Another way of depicting Iran’s economy is GDP per capita. In this respect, they are certainly at a much worse position than they were in 2010. The most recent data from 2019 indicates that their GDP per capita (PPP included) was at around $13,000 - almost 40% lower than in 2010!

Population

Iran has the second largest population in the Middle East and North Africa regions with the total number of 83 million citizens.
