Introduction

The Baltic state of Latvia is one of several small nations located in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It shares borders with Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, and Belarus. The Republic of Latvia has almost 2 million inhabitants. Its capital and the largest city is Riga.

The land coverage of 64,589 square kilometers is quite substantial for such a small population. As a result, its density is one of the smallest in Europe - only 30 people per square kilometers.
