Introduction

The official name of North Korea is Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is a nation located in East Asia that inhabits the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. The country is neighboured by three countries, namely China, Russia, and South Korea. The largest city and at the same time the capital of the nation is Pyongyang. Interestingly, in spite of being very small in both size and population, DPRK is one of the most militarized nations in the world. We should bear in mind that in spite of claims of being a one-party republic, the nation is governed under a totalitarian dictatorship with the head of Kim Jong-un.

Economy

It is difficult to establish the official and legitimate GDP of North Korea due to lack of formal information from the government. However, it is said that the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) GDP is estimated to be at around $40 billion. Still, these data come from 2014 and if we apply the same progress in North Korea to other nations, we can observe the increase of GDP by at least 20%.

Population

According to data from 2018, the population of North Korea is at around 25 million. If we take into account its low land coverage, it gives them a density of 212 North Koreans per square kilometer.
