Introduction

Suriname, or Surinam, is a country located in South America. The official name is the Republic of Suriname. There are three neighboring countries which are French Guiana, Guyana and Brazil. To the north it is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. Because of its location near the Equator, the territory is strongly dominated by rain forests.

The entire economy of Suriname is strongly dependent upon its natural resources, e.g., gold. In 2019 GDP (PPP) was equal to $9.044 billion. As far as GDP per capita is concerned, it comes to $15,845.
