Tunisia
Introduction
The Republic of Tunisia is the nation bordered by Algeria and Libya. It is the smallest country in North Africa and one of the smallest on the continent. The republic is located in the Maghreb region and its land coverage includes the end of the Atlas Mountains and a part of the Sahara desert. The largest city of the nation and its capital is Tunis.
Economy
The GDP of Tunisia is at the level of $131 billion, which is surely low when we take into account the region of North Africa and the Middle East. In such respect, it takes 12th position. It also has a considerably lower GDP than its neighbor Algeria (almost 4 times smaller). However, it has a slightly larger GDP than another neighbor, namely Libya.
In terms of GDP per capita, we can notice a steady increase in recent several years. As a result, Tunisia is catching up with the average of $11,230. However, it has a long way to go, since the average for the Middle East and North Africa is estimated to be at around $17,000, in accordance with 2019 data.
