Countries with the highest employment in agriculture

Top 10 countries by employment in agriculture

Employment in agriculture (percent of total employment)

One of the most important parts of the economy is agriculture. As a result of that, countries acquire animal and plant products that are crucial to not only feed the world, but also to guarantee the appropriate cultivation of more demanding flora and, obviously, fauna. Thanks to that we can breed livestock and enjoy its wonderful resources.

Interestingly, the last several years allowed us to see a huge change in the employment rates when compared to the % of total employment. Back in 2000, a little over 40% of total employment was in the category of agriculture. Now, it is only 26%. However, thanks to a huge advancement in technology, it does not mean we have less food than before. There is much more than we had in the previous years!

See the top 3 countries that deal with agriculture!

Obviously the data provided at the top refers to the worldwide employment, which depict the average in the world. Still, there are many citizens in developing countries that focus on agriculture simply because of its low skill threshold and the possibility to feed entire families.

The country that is focused on agriculture the most is surely Burundi. There, 92% of the total labor force is working in this particular field of economy. The second place belongs to Somalia. However, it is a noticeable lower percentage of the total employment - 83%. The Central African Republic closes the ranking with 77% according to the data recorded in 2020. Interestingly, most of the African region is focused on agriculture, because out of ten most agriculturally focused nations, all of them are from the Dark Continent.

What about the top 3 nations that are least focused on agriculture?

As you can guess, most of the developed countries are fairly limited in agriculture. Some of them are Argentina, Hong Kong SAR in China, Guam and Macao SAR in China. All these places are agriculture employment at the level of 0% of total employment in the country.
