Countries with the highest population growth

Top 10 countries by population growth

The growth of humans population

The number of people around the world started to significantly increase in the last several decades. The real boom started after the second world war. The last one hundred years increased the entire population of human species from approximately 2.5 billion to 7.8 billion.

Obviously, such a drastic growth is not visible everywhere. There are several places with a much larger increase in population than others. In order to depict you all, we collected the most recent data from World Bank Data.

Where is the largest population growth?

According to the information from 2019, the biggest annual growth was recorded in Bahrain and it was 4.5%. The second place in the ranking belongs to Niger with 3.8% of the annual increase. Malta closes the podium with a similar value, namely 3.7%.

It is important to notice that most of the nations at the top of these rankings are African countries. Obviously, these are only percentages, because in terms of the raw numbers, China is still the most populated country with the largest amount of births.

What about the smallest population growth?

If there are more deaths than births in a given country or in a selected region, then we are dealing with a negative population growth. Such a phenomenon can be noticed in several nations. The biggest problem seems to be in Moldova, because in 2019 the data suggested there was a -1.8% of annual population growth. Another place with negative population growth is Curacao with -1.4%. The third place is Venezuela that had -1.2% of annual population growth.

What about the situation in the largest countries in the world?

At this point, there are only two countries with a total population that exceed 1 billion, and these are China (1.40) and India (1.37). In these two cases, there is a very minor annual growth in population, because in 2019, it was 1% in India and 0.4% in China. It shows that the largest nations are slowly steadying their population.

The Americans are the third most populous country with 0.3 billion or 330 million people there. their annual population growth is also incredibly low, because it is only 0.5%. Indonesia, which is number four in terms of population, has 1% of its annual growth. Interestingly, 5th Pakistan recorded quite a large annual growth that estimated at 2%.
